Elect Claude Hunter for Township Director, Position 1

My commitment: To continue to devote full time to ensure our transition to a more cost effective and democratic government succeeds. My experience listening to and serving over 92,000 residents and 2000 businesses and working with others to achieve positive results for The Woodlands and our region is valuable and needs to continue!

I am the only candidate with proven experience on all of the governing boards that provided services, amenities and staff to you in the past ten years. As Director of The Woodlands Township since 2008 and Vice President of The Woodlands Association from 2000 to 2010 my accomplishments and goals for the future follow:

Law Enforcement – Since 2000 I progressively increased law enforcement as required to keep our community among the safest. I will continue to identify needs and approve additional law enforcement personnel and equipment as required.
Fire Protection – As Director of The Woodlands Fire Department Board I oversaw design and approved funding for four new fire stations and our Woodlands Emergency Training Center and the hiring of our Fire Chief. Together these result in an international safety rating among the safest in the US and qualifying for up to ten percent lower insurance rates for The Woodlands residents and businesses.
Local Governance – I worked since 1999 to ensure that The Woodlands will never be annexed. Never before has any Texas community been allowed to form their own local government at a population approaching 100,000 and to become free from threat of annexation. I will initiate a process within one year to begin preparing for residents to vote on our future permanent government as soon as allowed by our enabling legislation and agreements.
Assessment Rates – I succeeded in lowering community assessment rates each year while improving quantity and quality of services provided. We added amenities and improved services, yet reduced assessment rates to about one half (54 percent) of the 1999 rate. Reducing resident and business taxes while maintaining service quality is not a task for those with less proven experience.
Chamber of Commerce – As a member of the Chamber Legislative, Mobility and Diplomat Teams, I work to improve residential and business relationships, legislation initiatives and mobility and traffic planning to accomodate present and future growth.
Community Standards – as the only elected TWA Director to ever serve on the Design Review Committee, I maintained covenants and standards. This priority maintains property values, improves our quality of life, and attracts business to The Woodlands.
I Communicate information on The Woodlands and our activities daily via my website at: www.ClaudeHunter.com. I use input received via that website, e-mail and thousands of personal contacts to define and meet needs of your community.
