Claude Hunter’s - Views on Issues

From resident input via my ClaudeHunter.com website and many contacts, I know your most important issues are improving and maintaining community safety and the quality of life you expect, at minimal cost. It is your money and community and for the first time, your votes will elect four of the total of seven members of the first fully elected board to govern The Woodlands.

I will continue to work to convince other Directors of your desire for, and the importance of, meetings at a time and place more convenient to you. I will initiate a resident involvement process within one year to identify costs in preparation for residents voting to determine our permanent form of government as early as May 2014, as provided for by our enabling legislation and agreements with Houston and Conroe. Providing services and amenities for a community of over 92,000 residents and 2000 businesses is not a task for those with less experience providing services for all of The Woodlands at minimal taxpayer cost.

Primary Issues indicated by the last statistically valid survey of The Woodlands residents are:

  1. Public Safety - i have worked for more than ten years to substantially improve law enforcement, fire services and public safety. I will closely monitor results from law enforcement improvements now in process and will promptly act to authorize additional law enforcement or other safety improvements as needs are identified.

  2. Satisfaction - Most residents enjoy living in The Woodlands - that is why they come and stay. As our transition proceeds, I shall continue to work to ensure that we maintain and improve our high level of resident satisfaction at minimal tax cost.

  3. Deed restriction enforcement - I will make certain that deed restrictions continue to be enforced to maintain property values. My ten years service on the Residential Design Review/Design Review Committees makes me uniquely qualified.

  4. Improve traffic enforcement and reduce traffic congestion -  As your representative on the Chamber Mobility Team, I work diligently with others to improve these factors as growth continues. As a strong proponent of improved traffic enforcement for almost 13 years, I have been a leader in achieving significant improvements, soon to be completed. I will continue to monitor resident input and results to justify future improvement needs.

  5. Development concerns - As your Township Director for two years and as a Woodlands Association Vice President for ten years I maintained and improve standards and the smart growth concept that created this wonderful planned community. I will continue to work with others to maintain these issues and to refurbish older areas as needed to minimize community aging.

  6. Communication - I maintain communication and transparency about our community through open meetings, on-line meeting data and thousands of personal contacts. I maintain a website daily at: ClaudeHunter.com to make it easy for residents to stay informed and to provide input.  I use input received to work with others to achieve positive results for you.

I believe that serving you is an honor and a privilege.

Sincerely,                                                                                                                     Early voting:  April 26 to May 4, 2010

Election Day: Saturday, May 8, 2010
